Bordeaux launches territorial innovation

Last updated:

In partnership with the Association Territory and Social Innovation (ATIS), the City of Bordeaux has decided to launch a program“Start-up territory” to develop and increase innovations within the city and the region. Officially launched on February 15, this territorial innovation plan will bring together hundreds of players from all sectors of activity over the next 18 months with specific objectives: to create new jobs in the Region, to develop and support new ideas and innovations of entrepreneurs.

Bordeaux, with its status as “French Tech” is a breeding ground for entrepreneurs with innovative ideas that are just waiting to materialize, with important stakes. It is a laboratory where all sectors can present promising start-ups. 150 projects are to be studied during these 18 months from entrepreneurs, public, economic or academic actors by ATIS, the city of Bordeaux and all the players specialized in the support of these start-ups.

It should be noted that this project is being carried out simultaneously in six other territories across France with the same objective of “bringing new answers to old problems”.

These territorial projects are based on three key steps: the mobilization of ideas, with local actors who are sources of inspiration and who have an essential role in the territory in order to see which sectors are most promising for each in terms of needs (because not all the regions involved in this project have the same expectations in terms of needs and development). Secondly, it is a question of inspiring the entrepreneurs of tomorrow to participate in this territorial program by inviting them to many events in order to discover all the projects while mobilizing. This is an opportunity for the territories to be able to select the most impactful projects. Finally, after the selection, it is also necessary to accompany these entrepreneurs to help them to develop their project at the scale of the city, with a general mobilization of the actors, a kind of collective incubator.

If today 7 territories are affected by this “start-up territory” plan, by 2020, the target reaches 50 cities involved in this development. A way to help the growth of innovative ideas, bringing solutions and generating jobs across France. The aim is to accelerate the process of developing and launching tomorrow’s start-ups, with a close relationship linking it with its territory. In Bordeaux, the solutions clusters include the Silver Economy, ecological and inventive mobility, and urban agriculture. Many poles that would bring real added value to the city, which has been in constant demographic and technological development in recent years.
