VINOFED, the benchmark for international wine competitions
Le VINOFED is the world federation of major international wine and spirits competitions. It currently includes 17 prestigious and world-renowned competitions. As an observer of the OIV (International Organisation of Vine and Wine), VINOFED participates in the design and revision of the OIV Standard for international wine and spirits competitions and guidelines for the granting of OIV sponsorships. Thus, VINOFED practices audits of the Grand Competitions by following very strict standards. VINOFED’s three main missions are:
Ensure impeccable credibility with the results of the Great Competitions;
Ensure the authenticity and high quality of award-winning wines and spirits;
Strengthen consumer confidence by guaranteeing the quality of VINOFED award-winning products.
The Great Competitions in France organized by VINOFED number 4 and are among the most prestigious in the wine industry:
Vinalies International is organised by the Oenologists of France every year in Paris and is ISO 9001 certified (Quality management) since 2010. The 25th edition took place from 1 to 5 March 2019 and welcomed 130 tasters from all over the world. In 2018, 3,500 wines were presented from 33 different countries.
The Great White Wines of the World Competition will be held in Strasbourg on April 7 and 8, 2019. The competition brings together 7 international competitions around the world’s white wines. The Whites of the World Grape (1st edition), White Assemblages of the World (1st edition), Riesling of the World (22nd edition), Pinot Gris du monde (14 edition), Gewurztraminer of the world (12 edition), Sylvaner of the world (7th edition) and Pinot Blanc du monde (6th edition). Juries are international experts from 20 countries around the world.
The Rosé World Cup® has been held in Cannes for 14 years. For three days, the Union of Oenologists of France tastes rosé wines from all over the world blindly. In 2016, 1,300 samples were presented, including 776 French, 25 countries represented, 67 tasters of 18 nationalities, 30% of the wines were awarded after the deliberation of the juries (gold and silver). The next edition will take place from 11 to 13 April 2019 in Cannes.
The 19th edition of the Citadels of Wine
The Citadels of Wine are part of VINOFED and are a guarantee of quality and seriousness for both professionals and the reputation of the medals awarded. The 19th edition took place in Bourg (New Aquitaine) from 16 to 18 March 2019 and awarded 250 wines and 18 Special Prizes. This year, 40 tasters from 19 nationalities gathered (40% of them are European, 32% French, 18% North and South Americans, 7% Asian and 3% African) and 34 countries presented 867 bottles (average price of bottles presented: 10.40 euros HT – start chai).
The special awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, May 12, 2019 at 5 p.m. at the Cité du Vin de Bordeaux, the presentation of the Master-Class Wines Awards which is the presentation of the winning wines to buyers will take place on Tuesday, May 14 at the Vinexpo Academy (Hall 1 – Entry K – Room 4 – 10am – 6pm).
Among the Special Partner Awards awarded, the AOC Médoc 2015 – France of Château Malaire Cuvée Grande Réserve wins the Special Prix Sommeliers International and the AOC Blaye – Côtes de Bordeaux – France – Rouge 2015 of the Clos de Bonnance wins the Special Prize Oenologists of Bordeaux. The red of 2016, AOC Castillon – Côtes de Bordeaux of the Château de Belcier wins the Prix Special France.
The next edition of the Citadels of Wine 2020 will be held on March 21-23, 2020.
Wine events in Bordeaux
Bordeaux organises many festive and economic events around wines and spirits. These events have an international resonance and attract visitors from all over the world.
Bordeaux celebrates wine was born in 1998 following the initiative of Alain Juppé and over time became the largest European wine-tourism event. In 1998 150,000 visitors were visited along the quays in front of the Garonne, taking advantage of the many activities offered by the event. In 2016, more than 500,000 visitors visit the Bordeaux quays, which are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The glass and its case have become the iconic emblems of the Festival, serving to taste hundreds of wines and meet more than 1,000 winemakers.
Bordeaux is also Vinitech (The World Wine, Arboreal and Maraicher show), Vinexpo (international brand of the wine and spirits sector), Jazz and Wine and many others!
