Point S is positioning itself in the automotive repair market

Last updated:

Point S, the car repair franchise, is pursuing its development strategy in France and abroad. Its growth is supported by the resurgence of the automotive sector in France and Western Europe.

Point S in full development in France and internationally

Point S has been the automotive maintenance specialist for 47 years. Despite a fluctuating automotive market, Point S has been able to specialize in wheel repair, especially to withstand various crises. The opening of a new centre in Saint-André-de-Cubzac reflects Point S’s desire to support its development in France, and internationally. The brand plans to make its efforts in North America to increase its repair points.

Point S Campaign

The company positions itself against its competitors thanks to its myriad centers all over the world. In total, there are 3600 sales points in 33 countries (1). This form is also due to the automotive market, which has been able to withstand well in 2017, despite a slowdown in the huge US and Chinese markets. What emerges from the changes is the growing share of light, hybrid or 100% electric vehicles. This is not a problem for Points S, which bases its economy around tires, in fact 70% of the turnover is done through the sale or repair of tires.

It should be remembered, however, that Point S is not the only car maintenance and repair company to do well. The Midas franchise, for example, also shows high spirits (2). Midas has 2612 centres in 12 countries, which is certainly less substantial than its competitor but is part of a substantial group in the automotive market, MOBIVIA, which also owns Norauto, Auto 5 or Carter Cash.

A fluctuating automotive sector, undergoing a metamorphosis

The automotive sector has seen a resurgence of growth in recent years in Europe, particularly in Western Europe. France is the third largest European market after Germany and the United Kingdom, with a 26% share of the market (3). However, the good health of the automotive sector of French brands is largely due to sales in the French market, and not through exports to Europe, as can be the case in Germany. Thus, France’s automotive trade balance remains negative, and has been since 2007.

The other metamorphosis of the automotive sector is the growing role of electric cars (4). In 2015, there were about 1.2 million electric cars, in France they represented 1.2% of the market. France has undertaken important work on the deployment of charging stations and the promotion of electric cars. For example, with the introduction of lanes only reserved for clean vehicles, or with financial support for purchase. Car repairers such as Point S must anticipate the coming of clean vehicles, even if vehicle repair and maintenance is only a small part of the turnover.
