Student precariousness, actors mobilize

Precariousness largely affects students and this has intensified even more since the beginning of Covid-19. To remedy this, many actors are mobilizing on a daily basis and launching solidarity actions aimed at students. This is for example the case of Student Pop,the major player in the student world. The platform, accompanied by several partners such as associations, startups and companies have set up a movement called “Butter in their spinach”. This movement aims to offer the most insecure students essential goods and relieve them of a weight.

Nevertheless, this collective is not the only one to take advantage of students’ self-help solutions. This is also the case for the Government, which is putting in place solutions to help students during this difficult period. Among these measures, the introduction of hiring aid for companies has borne fruit. This makes it easier for students to find a job.

Student Pop x Butter in their spinach, solidarity solutions

Student precariousness has affected a large number of students since the beginning of the Covid-19 health crisis. Indeed, about 2/3 of students say they are in a precarious economic situation. This is partly due to the loss of their student job carried out in parallel with their studies. As a result, they find themselves in a precarious situation and can no longer pay for their education, food or leisure.

The Student Pop platform is a major player in the student world. Indeed, it accompanies and revolutionizes the world of student work. They highlight the profiles of students and allow them to find a quality student job, corresponding to their skills and interests. Thus, Student Pop ensures companies a student corresponding to their expectations. The platform also provides students with a suitable and quality job and thus becomes the intermediary between students and companies.

In this dynamic of mutual aid, Student Pop has made the decision to create a movement for students in these difficult times. In partnership with many startups, associations, companies and volunteers, they created Butter in their spinach. Advocating solidarity and mutual aid, the actors are mobilizing to offer students in precarious situations basic necessities. This includes both packed lunches and packages containing so-called “dry” products. With the help of more than 150 volunteers and twenty partner companies, the movement has helped a large number of students. More than 4,750 meals have been distributed since the movement’s launch in April 2020. Each in his own way can help students who find themselves in great precariousness because of the health crisis and the consequences it entails.

The Government, a major player in alleviating student insecurity

Student Pop is not the only one to mobilize and find solutions to give students a boost. Indeed, each company, association, organization does its best to make use of its activity and its notoriety for students.

The Government has thus taken matters into its own hands with a view to helping students. This period of health crisis has had a strong impact on hiring. Indeed, exceptional assistance has been made available to companies hiring a young person under the age of 26. Thus, this hiring assistance has made it possible to facilitate the process and thus encourage companies to hire. More than 440,000 contracts were signed in 2020, despite the health and economic crisis. This assistance therefore relates to contracts concluded between 1 August 2020 and 31 March 2021. It can be requested up to 4 months after the signing of the contract, until July 2021.

This assistance has helped to unlock the market for youth hiring. Indeed, many companies find themselves in a complex financial situation and would not have been able to hire without this assistance. This saved many students because without internships or rotations, they would have been forced to leave their training. It also allowed students to find a new student job. Indeed, a large number of student jobs have been shut down due in particular to the closure of restaurants, lack of activity and therefore the means of employers.
