Startup Contest: a hand outstretched to entrepreneurs

Creating a startup, a complex ordeal for everyone

To create a startup, it is not enough to imagine only an innovative concept. According to a study published in 2018 by IPSOS (1) which explains the low rate of business creation in France, 43% of French people say they do not want to take risks when it comes to starting a business, 40% say they are worried about starting their own business, and only 1 in 5 French people want to embark on an entrepreneurial adventure. At issue is the uncertainty related to the sustainability of the project, and the investment of time and resources required to create a new business, but also the fear of not being able to cope with the multiple responsibilities of a business leader. However, new businesses are being created every day in many industries.

Among these promising sectors in the entrepreneurship economy is first e-commerce, then tourism and finally technology and innovation. According to the FEVAD study (2), the turnover of online sales players in France has exceeded the threshold of 100 billion euros for the first time in 2019. This figure gives hope to young entrepreneurs in e-commerce who want to one day achieve their goals, especially in Bordeaux, considered the third metropolis in France that creates the most digital businesses, according to Invest in Bordeaux (3).

Thus, startup incubators and accelerators play an important role in supporting entrepreneurs. They actively participate in the development of start-ups, such as the startup incubator Entrepreneur Engie which organizes the Startup Contest, or The Pioneers,which exclusively supports entrepreneurs in their growth.

Highlighting French entrepreneurs

For the past ten years, the Startup Contest has been a national business plan and pitch competition dedicated to entrepreneurs. The competition aims to help them in the creation of their business and boost their image with investors. The first phase of regional qualification gave the candidate startups the opportunity to present their business plan in 2 minutes in front of the public, the jury and the cameras. While there are a plethora of calls for projects and competitions dedicated to entrepreneurship, the Startup Contest stands out from the rest by its network of professional partners composed of large French companies and by its prestige.

The competition allows entrepreneurs to save time in the search for investors, while introducing their concept, in order to attract companies willing to support them financially. The most innovative and ambitious projects will be rewarded at the final of the Startup Contest in Paris on December 11, 2020.

New Aquitaine Region Startup Contest 2020 Winners

The winning companies are gaining visibility, allowing them to reach more people and benefit from the support of professional partners of the Competition. Indeed, thanks to the selections made in the region, startups can present their project in the form of Pitch to the members of the Jury. The winners are automatically qualified to play in the final which will take place in Paris at the end of the year.
