Air tourism, the relaunch initiated by Ryanair for the autumn

Is air tourism ready to regain its colours and start again at the pre-pandemic pace? Faced with the acceleration of the vaccination of passengers, and the gradual reopening of all borders, this seems more than possible. Summer is then the ideal opportunity to leave, enjoy the sun, to the delight of tourism professionals. In this environment, some actors propose seduction operations to prepare for the off-season, which also becomes a pivotal period. A time of year that Ryanair wants to boost by offering attractive offers for travelers…

On 2 February 2022, Ryanair released new figures for air traffic on board its aircraft. Thus, the statistics for the month of January report a total number of 7 million passengers on more than 46,400 flights. The fill rate was 79%. As of January 2021, the airline had a total of 1.3 million passengers. The fill rate was 69%.

If the month of January 2022 is better than that of the previous year, it still shows a decrease compared to the previous months with the month of December. The months of December 2021 and January 2022 were affected by the covid-19 crisis. The circulation of the Omicron variant has imposed new travel restrictions. They have had a direct impact on the airlines. Thus, if the months of September, October and November showed good hopes for Ryanair with a number of passengers between 10.6 million and 11.3 million, it is still necessary to blame the blow of the health crisis. Airlines must therefore continue to adapt.

A recovery in air tourism supported by pilot training and recruitment

Ryanair is Europe’s leading airline. On April 8, she announced a partnership with Astonfly to set up a mentoring program in Paris. The objective is to train and recruit up to 500 cadet pilots over 4 years. This partnership will enable Ryanair to attract new profiles of highly qualified pilots to support its growth. This program comes in support of the post-pandemic recovery in international air transport.

The program will provide pilots with training to achieve qualifications to fly Ryanair’s Boeing 737s. The training will be delivered by Astonfly instructors who will use the company’s procedures and philosophy. It is therefore a training in the technicality of aircraft and the company’s corporate culture. Finally, in this program, Ryanair highlights career opportunities within Ryanair for new pilots. The company has no less than 90 bases worldwide. It offers career progression with an interesting remuneration potential. Indeed, the company offers the shortest time to access the command, between 3 and 4 years.

Discounted tickets to boost air tourism in Europe

Ryanair is a European low-cost airline that wants to attract its customers to go back abroad. The summer period corresponds to the departures on vacation, or the ideal period during which some teleworkers choose to work from another country to enjoy the summer. Also, faced with the acceleration of vaccination in France and Europe, tourism professionals are hopeful that activity will resume more clearly. To encourage travelers to leave, the company offers for example to find tickets at reduced prices.

Also, the company organized 24 hours of online flash sales to sell plane tickets at very low prices. A single fare of €12.99 for more than 650 different routes, for a departure in September or October. The sale, which took place on August 12, offered more than 500,000 tickets at this price. For this price, travelers had the choice among several destinations, such as Malaga, Amsterdam, Bari, Barcelona, Warsaw, Copenhagen or Marrakech. Attractive destinations to discover new landscapes during the week.

These rates apply for a weekday departure, in the middle of the off-season. With the rise of teleworking and the upheavals in habits, taking a vacation outside the summer period is easier. This is not the first time that Ryanair has contributed to the revival of air tourism with this type of operation. Similar events had already helped to revive air activity.

In addition, faced with the uncertainty related to the pandemic, Ryanair had also placed itself in a position of confidence, by proposing the cancellation or postponement of free travel. An offer motivated in particular by the constant evolution of the health situation and restrictions. This proximity and this concern to support travelers allows Ryanair to position itself as a reference in air tourism.

Charitable actions to revive the group’s activity

Ryanair doesn’t just stop at selling tickets on flash sale, as it did a few days ago. The Ryanair Foundation is very involved in charitable actions for European associations. Several years ago, the company began selling scratch tickets for passengers on its flights. Tickets on sale at the price of €2, the proceeds of which go to the associations supported by Ryanair.

Thus, the Jack & Jill Foundation, Make a Wish Italy, Kinderhilfe Germany, Naomi House & Jacksplace UK and many others are among the beneficiaries of this attractive operation. Because in addition to doing a good deed in favor of these associations, passengers on Ryanair flights can win up to 1 million euros. A lot that has enough to encourage air tourism to resume!

Recently, two people each won 100,000 euros. A gain that encourages you to take the plane: what could be better than traveling while pocketing a large sum? This kind of special operations appeals to customers, who try their luck. This makes it possible to revive the activity of a company, but also to contribute to its reputation.

While activity is slowly picking up in France and Europe, air tourism also wants to regain its colours. A quest for activity that restarts in summer, with the wide vaccination of travelers and the introduction of the famous health pass. This latest news allows the entire sector to finally begin to raise the bar, and to project itself towards a more sustained pace. Much more sustained than the one that airlines have been experiencing since March 2020…
